A sample: “Ella and the Christmas Eve Trail”
Made on our form, like any book, in the gouache and cut paper style. The family is invented; this is what they wrote:
Ella, 4. A four-year-old girl with fair skin, rosy cheeks, freckles and wavy strawberry-blonde hair in two low pigtails, wearing a green knitted sweater with a white snowflake, a red skirt, white tights and little brown boots. Loves: snow, baking gingerbread and her puppy. Christmas Eve: she and her puppy help a lost young reindeer find its way back to Santa's sleigh, and get home in time to leave cookies out. Also in the story: our puppy, Pepper.

On Christmas Eve, Ella baked gingerbread stars. Pepper sat nearby, sniffing the warm, sweet air.

While the cookies cooled, she looked outside. Snowflakes danced over the little garden.

Then came a soft tap at the door. A young reindeer stood outside, looking for Santa’s sleigh!

- “We can help,” said Ella. She wrapped up warmly, and Pepper gave a little wag.
- The reindeer had followed a lovely smell. “Our gingerbread!” said Ella with a giggle.
- Now it needed the way back. Ella spotted little hoofprints in the snow.
- “Step, step, back we go.” She followed the prints, with Pepper beside her and the reindeer close behind.
- At the snowy flowerpot, the prints turned. “This way!” said Ella.
- Pepper stopped by the gate. Jingle, jingle! Sleigh bells sounded just beyond it.
- There was Santa’s sleigh, waiting outside! Ella opened the gate for the little reindeer.
- The reindeer trotted back to its place. “Happy Christmas!” called Ella, waving her mitten.
- Jingle, jingle, away went the sleigh. “Home for cookies!” said Ella.
- She left gingerbread stars for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer. Pepper had a puppy biscuit.
- Ella cuddled Pepper by the window. Cookies ready, reindeer home—what a happy Christmas Eve!

Questions
- When should I order for Christmas?
- To have it before Christmas Eve, order and approve the book by these days: the US by Sunday, November 29; the UK by Sunday, December 6; Canada by Tuesday, November 24; Ireland by Thursday, November 19; Australia by Tuesday, November 17; New Zealand by Tuesday, November 17. They leave room for December's slower printing and post. After you order, we draw the rest of the book in a few minutes; printing starts when you approve it, so look it over the same day.
- Can the whole family be in it?
- Yes: up to 3 more characters besides your child, such as a brother, a grandparent or the dog. Each one gets its own reference drawing, so they look the same on every page.
- Can I add a Christmas message?
- Yes. The first page carries your words, for example “Merry Christmas, Ella! Love, Mum and Dad”. Leave it empty and we write one.
- Can Santa be in the story? And characters from films?
- Santa, reindeer and snowmen, yes. Characters that belong to films, cartoons or brands, no: printers refuse them, and so do we.
- Can I see the book before I pay?
- Yes. You see the whole story, the cover and the first pages before paying. After you order, we draw the rest and show you the whole book before anything is printed, for you to approve or change. Not happy before printing? Full refund.
- What does it cost?
- $44.99 for the hardcover, 8.5 × 8.5 inches, 32 pages in full colour. Shipping is free to the US, the UK and Ireland; to Canada, Australia and New Zealand you pay the postage ($10–16).
